10 Places on the Internet to Share Pictures

Photography has changed enormously in recent years. Remember when we used to wait for the film to be developed and were never sure which pictures would turn out well? Then we had to get extra prints if we wanted to share them with others and either send them in the mail or give them in person. Digital cameras and the internet now make it easy to take lots of pictures to share with your friends and family instantly.

  1. Shutterfly – This website allows you to upload your photos and share them in various ways. You can have a customized share site and invite friends and family you would like to share your pictures with. They have picture books, albums, cards, coffee mugs and many ways to use photos to personalize gifts and mementoes. Their prices are reasonable and you get lots of free stuff. Of course you can also email photos and albums.
  2. Flickr – This is a Yahoo site with many of the same features as the others. One difference is the way you can add captions to your pictures and allow others to make comments on them. If you have an Apple computer photos can be uploaded with iPhoto and then sent directly to your Flickr account. You can buy a Pro account to get extra storage space and protection for your pictures.
  3. Snapfish – This site is partnered with Flickr and HP Image Zone so you can do fun things with your photos like calendars, books, mugs, and cards. They also have six different features for sharing your pictures with friends and family.
  4. Photobucket – Another free website that allows you to upload thousands of photos, organize and edit them, share with others, link to other websites and applications, plus provides direct access to your mobile phone.
  5. Picasa – If you have a Gmail account or use Google, this website has a direct link for uploading and sharing your photos. One interesting feature they provide is a way for you to add geotags to your pictures so you can remember exactly where they were taken through Google Maps.
  6. Kodakgallery – With the photo industry going digital, Kodak is staying in the market with their digital website. They emphasize high quality in their products and features with a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
  7. Facebook – Many people use their Facebook page to share pictures. You can upload them on your profile wall or share them in your news feed. I’m not very happy with the way my pictures are displayed in my profile because the tops and sides are cut off and there doesn’t seem to be a way of fixing it.
  8. Blogs – Bloggers who have their own blog sites like to share pictures and talk about them in their blogs.
  9. Website – Of course, if you have a website, you want to be posting pictures there to share with people who visit your site.
  10. Email – If you don’t want all your pictures uploaded into cyberspace, you can simply email the ones you want to share. However, if you send them as an attachment you cannot control the size. I’ve gotten pictures from people that were way too big for my computer screen. If you email them directly from your picture file, you will be given the option to make them smaller.

All the photo sharing websites are free to download and use. You will want to compare prices of prints and merchandise and see what they have for special offers. Even though they are capable of storing thousands of pictures, storage space may vary, so you want to compare that also. Different brands of computers, cameras, and picture phones have direct links to different sites, so that may influence which one is most convenient for you to use. Ways to share your pictures with other people are just about endless and expanding every day as new technology develops. Keep taking those snapshots and sharing the memories of your life.
